SHOBO
Terms of Service
This is an English translation. If it differs from the
Korean version, the Korean version prevails.
Upcoming change These terms take effect on November 3, 2026. Until then, the
previous version applies.
What changes: new articles on accounts (Art. 5), guilders (Art. 6), the auction (Art. 7), and collections and the museum (Art. 8); additions to user obligations and service changes; Artemo Inc. named as the operator.
Article 1 (Purpose)
These Terms set out the conditions and procedures for using "SHOBO" (the "Service"), a web-based investing simulation game provided by Artemo Inc. (주식회사 아르테모, the "Company").
Article 2 (Definitions)
- "Service" means the web game "SHOBO" run by the Company and its pages (Terms, Privacy Policy, museum pages, etc.).
- "User" means anyone who uses the Service under these Terms.
- "Content" means text, images, code, simulation data, game results and other material provided in the Service.
- "Account" means a Service account a user creates by signing in with Google.
- "Guilders" means virtual points used only inside the Service.
- "Auction" means the in-Service event where users bid guilders to receive collection items.
- "Collection items" means virtual pictures won at auction or given by the Service.
- "Museum" means the page that shows a user's collection items.
Article 3 (Effect of and agreement to these Terms)
Accessing the Service and starting a game means you agree to these Terms.
Users who sign in agree to these Terms in the sign-in window.
The Company may change these Terms and will announce changes in the Service at least 7 days before they take effect.
Changes unfavorable to users are announced 30 days in advance.
Article 4 (What the Service provides)
The Service provides:
- A virtual investing simulation set in Korean economic history from 2008 to 2026
- Trading of virtual assets such as stocks, indices, real estate, crypto and deposits
- Viewing and sharing simulation results
- Comparing results with others through challenge codes
- Guilder exchange, the auction and the museum
The game is free to play without signing up or paying.
Guilder exchange, the auction and the museum require signing in with a Google account; they are also free, and there are no payment features.
Article 5 (Accounts)
- Accounts are created by signing in with Google, and only people aged 14 or older may create one.
- One person may not gather or move guilders or collection items across multiple accounts.
- You can delete your account at any time. Deleting it removes all your guilders, bids and collection items, and this can't be undone.
Article 6 (Guilders)
-
Guilders are points used only inside the game and are not money.
They can't be exchanged for cash or goods, and can't be bought, sold or transferred to anyone else.
-
Exchange: only runs finished on Hard difficulty, with non-custom settings and real price data, can be exchanged.
You can exchange once a day (Korea time), and each run can be exchanged only once.
Guilders grow by 1,000 each time the run's final amount grows tenfold: the amount is 1,000 × log10(final amount ÷ ₩10 million), rounded down.
For a USD run, 1,000 times its final amount is treated as the KRW amount. One exchange gives at most 10,000 guilders, and a run that ends at ₩10 million or less can't be exchanged.
| Final amount | Guilders |
| ₩100 million (starting amount) | 1,000 |
| ₩10 billion | 3,000 |
| ₩1 trillion | 5,000 |
| ₩10 quadrillion | 9,000 |
| ₩100 quadrillion or more | 10,000 |
The Company replays the run on its server to verify the amount and doesn't exchange runs that can't be verified.
-
Weekly reset: when each week's auction settlement finishes (right after the Friday 10:00 p.m. close), all remaining guilders are cleared.
Guilders exchanged after the close are kept for the next sale.
- Guilders obtained through errors or improper means may be taken back.
Article 7 (Auction)
- The auction is a sealed-bid auction in which you can't see others' amounts, and closes every Friday at 10:00 p.m. Korea time.
The Company decides each sale's lots, minimum bids and estimates.
- You can place only one bid per sale, and a placed bid can't be changed or withdrawn.
A bid must be at least the minimum bid and within your balance, and is deducted from your balance when placed.
- When a lot has N copies, up to N of the highest bidders win. All winners pay the same price: the (N+1)th highest bid or the minimum bid, whichever is higher
(the minimum bid if there are N bids or fewer). Equal bids are ordered by a random value sealed when the sale opens, which is published after settlement.
Winners get back the difference between their bid and the winning price; bidders who don't win get their whole bid back. Refunded guilders are then cleared with the settlement under Article 6(3).
- If a lot receives fewer bids than it has copies, the remaining copies move to the next sale, and the minimum bid drops by 20% each time they move (down to 50% of the original minimum bid).
A lot left over in three sales in a row is not carried over again.
- Settlement is processed by the server after the close and may be delayed by server conditions.
Article 8 (Collection items and the museum)
- Collection items are virtual pictures; they don't transfer any physical object, copyright or trademark.
Some pictures are modeled on real objects, but the Service has no relationship with the owners of those objects or marks.
- Collection items can't be exchanged for money, bought, sold or transferred to anyone else.
- Anyone with the link can see a museum page, which shows the nickname, member ID and collection items.
Article 9 (Investment simulation disclaimer)
The Service is a virtual simulation for entertainment and education. It is not investment advice, a stock recommendation, a solicitation for financial products or a guarantee of returns.
- All figures in the game, including asset prices, returns and grades, are based on processed historical data or synthetic time series and differ from actual market results.
- Game results do not predict or guarantee future investment returns. Past performance does not guarantee future returns; this is a basic principle of financial markets.
- If you make real investment decisions based on information from the Service, the Company is not responsible for any resulting losses.
- Please consult a licensed financial professional (investment adviser, financial planner, etc.) before making real investment decisions.
- The in-game tax and fee system (0.1% trading fee, 10–20% capital gains tax, etc.) is simplified for game balance and differs from the rates, deductions and filing procedures of actual Korean tax law (Income Tax Act, Securities Transaction Tax Act, Local Tax Act, etc.). For tax matters, consult a licensed tax accountant or the National Tax Service.
Article 10 (Data sources and accuracy)
Synthetic Synthetic time series
Default asset prices in the Service are synthetic time series anchored to historical reference points, with the gaps filled by mathematical interpolation (log interpolation plus regime-based volatility). It is a map drawn after the real coastline, not a satellite photo.
Real data Actual trading data
Where a separate data file (prices.json) exists, actual daily closing prices are applied to some assets. The Company does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of this data.
Real estate Real estate data
Apartment and land prices are synthetic time series that reference turning points in actual transactions. They do not match actual real estate prices and can't be used as a basis for sale or rental prices.
Challenge code Challenge code data
Other users' results shared through challenge codes are generated automatically from their play records, and the Company does not guarantee their accuracy or authenticity. This data may be manipulated, and the Company is not responsible for decisions based on it.
※ All data is provided "AS IS" and may contain errors or omissions.
Article 11 (Intellectual property)
- Intellectual property rights in the Service's design, source code, game logic, text, images (including collection item pictures) and other content belong to the Company or the original authors.
- The Service's source code is published under the MIT License and may be used freely under its terms.
- You are free to share game results and your museum on social media, but if you modify the Service's content to run a separate commercial service, you must follow the MIT License terms (copyright notice, etc.).
Article 12 (User obligations)
Users must not:
- Interfere with the normal operation of the Service (DDoS attacks, excessive automated requests, etc.)
- Use the Service to infringe others' rights or act unlawfully
- Manipulate game results and spread false investment returns as if they were real
- Manipulate run records or server requests to obtain guilders or collection items
- Collect guilders with automation tools
- Impersonate others or use offensive nicknames
If you break these rules, the Company may take back guilders and collection items or restrict your account.
Article 13 (Disclaimers)
- The Company provides the Service "AS IS" and makes no warranty, express or implied, as to its accuracy, completeness, reliability, timeliness or fitness for a particular purpose.
- The Company is not responsible for interruptions caused by events beyond its control, such as natural disasters, server failures or network failures.
- The Company is not responsible for damage you suffer while using the Service (data loss, device failure, etc.) unless caused by its intent or gross negligence.
- The Company is not responsible for the content of external links (third-party websites) in the Service.
Article 14 (Changes to and suspension of the Service)
The Company may modify or suspend all or part of the Service for operational or technical reasons, without any obligation to compensate. It will give reasonable advance notice of any suspension.
Guilder exchange, the auction and the museum may also be changed or ended after notice, with no compensation for guilders or collection items.
